With the economic slowdown playing havoc with the job market, the high salaries and bonuses witnessed two-three years ago came crashing down. However, the situation is improving now. Companies are back to their hiring ways and the job market is again showing some activity. People are applying for new jobs and seeking better salary offers. Many firms who had earlier put a freeze on salary hikes and compensation review are now mulling to reverse that. Businesses have started to witness revenue trickling in and the benefits are expected to be passed on to the employees. However, all this does not guarantee a salary hike for you. Salary hike at any point of time depends on many other things too, other than the business situation.

Whether you’re already in a job or looking for a new job, you can still get more salary than what you already earn. You can rev up your compensation by taking the right moves and presenting yourself well in front of your boss or interviewer. You need to be flexible, smart and need to have your timing right. Other than being a hard worker, you also need to be a smart worker. You need to prove to your employer what your worth is. Just sitting and contemplating about your accomplishments and capabilities will not change the amount on your pay check. So, have proof of what you have achieved and be ready to furnish it at the right time and the right place. If the financial position of your employer is already tight, he would anyway be reluctant to dole out higher cash benefits. So, you have to be tactful enough to be able to extract them.

In normal work routine in a job, your boss might not immediately notice and acknowledge your accomplishments. If everything at the workplace is going smoothly, your boss will become complacent about individual contributions and take them for granted. This can result in your good work going unnoticed. Thus, you should be ready to enlist your specific achievements in every project or important milestone and keep reminding your boss of the same. You might have helped increase the sales or, made operations smoother and more efficient or helped garner positive response from clients. All this amounts to big and small achievements that must be brought to the notice of your supervisor. Have proof for all your achievements and present it to people who matter. If possible, try to put your achievements in numbers or direct quotes from clients. This will have a better impact.

If you are an active job seeker and looking for a job in any sector, may be engineering jobs, marketing jobs or bpo jobs, you need to highlight the achievements of your career effectively during the interview. If you are able to showcase a good track record throughout your work history, it will create an impressive case for you and the hiring manager would want to take you on board at whatever cost. That way, you can quote a realistic but high salary for yourself and get your way. You should also study the market before quoting just any amount. This will give you a realistic picture and according to your experience, qualifications and skill sets, you can quote the right amount of salary for yourself. If you are able to present your competence at the right time and in the right manner, a salary hike is bound to come your way.

I have conducted hundreds of employment interviews for positions ranging from manufacturing shop floor to the executive level. After awhile you begin to notice that successful candidates did certain things that contributed to their positive outcome. Likewise, unsuccessful candidates had certain other actions in common which led to their not being chosen or did not help them.

Hiring managers tell me they can see if someone is right for the organization minutes after the handshake. In a recent Robert Half survey, executives polled said they typically form an opinion of a candidate within the first ten minutes of an employment interview. With such a short amount of time to interact with a hiring manager, what can the candidate do to achieve a positive response?

The most macho of people can be daunted and undone when it comes to facing a job interview. Like public speaking, many have interviewing on their list of their top five most dreaded things to experience. Is it possible to embrace or almost enjoy job interviews? Answer: yes. Following are some behaviors to keep in mind that should help maximize your potential for a successful outcome:

Be cool. A great way to make a good first impression in an interview is to master the interview butterflies. I agree, this can be very hard, but you must try. Feeling stress is a natural response to the interviewing process, and most candidates experience it at some level. The trick is not to show it.

Leverage. Though most aspects of the interview are outside a candidate’s control, it is important to leverage the things that are in your power. One example: give yourself a time cushion, and plan to arrive at the interview destination 10-15 minutes early. The consequences of arriving late to an interview are huge. Even if only a few minutes late, you will arrive breathless and already on the defensive. Your goal for the interview is to appear confident and in control, and the need to give excuses for tardiness is inconsistent with that goal. Planning for some extra time in case you get lost or find unexpected traffic travel conditions also allows you to compose yourself and relax a little. Sweaty palms also do not help achieve your goal of a confident persona. Practice at getting yourself to gear down through use of long, slow breathing and other time-tested relaxation techniques.

Anticipate questions. Another thing successful job candidates do is to anticipate questions they are likely to be asked, and give pre-thought to the answers. This bit of preparation will be a confidence booster and stress reliever. Whether any or all of those specific questions are asked, many of the answers often prove useful with respect to other questions. The more pre-work you do for the interview, the more it calms nerves.

No matter what your career experience, doing these behaviors will help you get an edge over the competition for that new job.

Almost all the blue chip companies have a provision for executive coaching for their employee at almost all levels. It is proven that objective-driven one-on-one interaction between the coach and the employee in the right circumstances can help the employees gain the professional focus that no other form of organizational support can ever achieve. In the initial stages when this form of life coaching was introduces, it was used mainly as a means to correct underperformance in a few employees. However, in today’s times of competition and stress, coaching is important for all the recruits, especially those who have the potential of becoming future organizational leaders.

The main purpose of executive coaching is to develop leaders within the deserving people and prepare them of the responsibilities to come, while maintaining their current level of day-to-day responsibilities. The coach provides the additional push which is required to enable an employee to attain better and quicker results and walk up the corporate ladder as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The most crucial part of this type of life coaching is the feedback. As the employee begins to grow constantly in the organization, the importance of feedback goes on increasing. However, the feedback which is provided by the company is far too irregular and insufficient to help the employee recognize his string and weak points. Executive coaching is the perfect solution to this problem. The coach is an outsider to the organization and his inputs to the employees about the ways in which they can meet their personal as well as organizational goals by sharpening their skills and overcoming all the current and potential hurdles can be very useful in improving their productivity.

If you’re reading this article, you’ve decided you want a guide to find out how to get on your way to becoming an electrician, of course, the first step is to actually become an electrician apprentice. This is a very promising field to go into, as a survey done by the government has said that there will be a viable need for electricians in a large amount for at least the next ten years. We have to remember that everything in our world has become electronic. Robots are making cars, everything is focused around electricity. The demand for electricians will only become greater as time goes on. So feel safe in choosing this as your profession. However, as with all things, you need a quick guide to becoming an electrician. Here it is.

Step 1

You will first have to apply for an electrician apprenticeship through the National Electrical Contractors Association. You can find their details easily on the internet or through your yellow pages. During this program you will learn various skills that you will need to become a very good electrician apprentice. By the end of it you will be able to lay, measure, and install testing wires, switches and outlets. As you progress through the apprenticeship your tasks will become more complex so be prepared to learn a lot.

Step 2

You will then have to choose your specialty, a few examples of what specialty an electrician can become is a lineman, residential wireman or a VDV installer technician. You will need to find out which program is suitable for you via the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, they are also known as NJATC. There are many branches of the NJATC scattered across the United States and even Canada if you are interested.

Step 3

You will need to finish the required coursework. Usually there will be 144+ hours of classroom time that you will have to attend. This is an obligation that is required from all apprentice electricians. You will also need a minimum of 2000 on the job hours of training.

Step 4

Once you have made sure that you have qualified, you need to get a license to become an electrician. Depending on the state you live in, you might have different licensing requirements. You will have to check for your requirements individually. Generally, however, you need to pass a state exam and have your apprenticeship completed.

Step 5

Once you have gotten your license and completed your electrician apprenticeship, you can finally apply for a job with a contractor in your area or whoever you would like to work. Remember to write an impressive CV that will make you stand out from the rest of the people.

Becoming an electrician is not a easy path to take, so make sure you are a motivated, hard-working individual who is prepared to work with tough difficult working situations. While rewarding, it is difficult work. So keep safe and make sure that becoming an electrician is the right job for you.

The next degree earned after a Bachelor’s degree is normally a Master’s degree. Holding a Master’s degree indicates that the graduate possesses the knowledge necessary to teach the discipline / major chosen. A wide range of Master’s degrees is offered by colleges nowadays. One can opt for Master’s of Science in Healthcare, Master’s of Science in Arts, Master of Business Administration (MBA) etc. that are professional degrees involving intensive research and technical skills in order to successfully complete the program. All Master’s Degrees demand a completed research project or a thesis in order to graduate.

If you choose to excel in an area of your chosen discipline, a Master’s degree is an impressive addition to your educational armor. A two-year Associate’s degree or a four-year Bachelor’s degree both demonstrate a proficiency in the level of your education, but a Master’s degree indicates a level of expertise in a specific area of study. Most employers nowadays require a four-year degree at minimum for entry-level positions in a host of various careers. Having a Master’s degree to your credit will only make the job application process that much more advantageous in your favor as well as help you advance up the career ladder more easily. Research indicates that people with Bachelor’s degree earn less than those with advanced degrees such as a Master’s or even a Doctorate. And if you want to keep yourself more marketable and your training skills more current, an advanced degree may be just what you need.

You could opt for a Master’s degree directly after graduating with your Bachelor’s degree or, like many people are choosing, you could return to an advanced degree after a few years of gaining experience in the workplace. Even in such instance, having a Master’s degree gives you an option of a career change if you want to diversify and switch to another chosen discipline.
Apart from boosting your income and giving you an advantage while competing for jobs, a Master’s degree is often considered for certain higher-level positions in the fields of business, public policy, engineering, and administration. Candidates without an advanced degree might not even be entertained, so make sure you investigate the requirements of your career choices and plan your education accordingly.

A Master’s degree also allows the student to be fully immersed in a subject matter they obviously feel passionate about. Conducting research, meeting and interacting with prestigious faculty and peers, and creating long term contacts are all part and parcel of such an educational experience.

Colleges and institutions offer diversified degree programs to choose from for Master’s. While you can opt for a traditional classroom and attend lectures at a school, many colleges now offer the same Master’s Degree Programs online as well. This is a boon for those of you who want to advance your career but cannot interrupt your life to do so.

Online Masters degree allows you to maintain your income, keep your day job and further your education at the same time. The process is amazingly flexible and convenient with the pace of studying set by you. No doubt, there will be times when all your commitments – your family, your job, or your studies may clash but with a sense of discipline and a whole lot of motivation, you will manage.

Online Masters Degree Programs are also less expensive than the traditional graduate degree programs. Since you can opt for an accelerated online graduate degree nowadays, the sooner you graduate, the faster you can reap the benefits of your advanced degree in terms of higher pay and better job prospects. As we discussed earlier, a Master’s degree will help you advance your career and make you invaluable to the company you work for. Many companies often sponsor their employee’s higher education as well, so check this out with your Human Resource department if you are interested.

Choosing to complete a Master’s degree is not a decision to be taken lightly. It is a major commitment of time and money with intensive work and research, but the end results will more than make up for it. Of that there is no doubt.

• Research thoroughly. That is the most vital step towards writing an article because you need to know what you have to write. Once you have done the research you can write everything as you understand it. When you have done your research, you know what it is that the topic requires and which stance you will take. You have sources and evidence to support your point along with the general benefits of extensive research. Make your article descriptive by using real experiences of yourself or of other people.
• Create an outline. This way, when writing an article, you have all the material in front of you so that you leave nothing out and it brings your thoughts into focus. Making an outline can be a difficult process for writing an article but it helps in the end. An outline should include a headline, introduction, body, conclusion, and a list of sources. Usually in writing an article, you will be presenting a problem and proposing solutions to it. Therefore, the introduction should introduce the problem, the body should propose solutions to the problem, and the conclusion should summarize your article and call for the reader to take action. The reader does not necessarily share your opinion; therefore, you have to sell them the problem and the solution to it.
• Edit and proofread your article. Writing an article is not complete until you have edited it for structure, clarity, and content. If there are too many run-on sentences in a paragraph, or too many punctuation and spelling mistakes, it ruins the effect of the article. You want your reader to focus on the material presented in your article, not to be distracted by such mistakes. Therefore, after writing an article, look for your mistakes and notice things as grammar, consistency in narrative voice (first, second, or third person) and whether you have followed the topic from beginning to end avoiding extraneous information.
• Do not plagiarize. It is easy to discover plagiarism and reflects badly on anyone who does it. It’s acceptable to research the internet and use sources; however, taking it word-to-word is not acceptable. Paraphrasing, which is the act of rephrasing a text or passage, is also a form of plagiarism. For writing an article, you need to be original and let the words flow from your mind. It is always best to understand your content before writing it so that you can write it yourself as you understand it.
• Realize that it is all about the reader. You are writing for the reader, therefore, you need to figure out who your audience is and then write the article accordingly. The reader likes to hear real stories, real examples, and real statistics. The reader does not theory, but rather, reality. When a reader feels like he cannot to do anything about the problem presented, he will feel anxious. Give the reader as much information in the beginning as you can, give them resource information so that they can make up their mind for themselves.

At Term Papers Corner, we use these tips to help us write your articles so that you have no cause for complain and receive efficiently written and thoroughly researched articles. Make a good choice and choose Term Papers Corner to write your articles for you.

The first tip is to explain why you are suitable for education in that particular institution. This is because different colleges have different areas of concentrations or different programs that are offered. For instance, a college may have a program in Business but not necessarily one in the field of Communication. Therefore, the student should take this into consideration when writing the college admission essay.

Then, two other college admission essay tips are; the student must be able to explain the fact that he or she is ready for college in the first place and explain why he or she is wants to go to college. The reasons that students give may vary. For example, they may say that they have successfully finished secondary school and wish to pursue higher education to better their chances of getting a job.

Another tip is to make sure that the college admission essay contains information on what program you wish to enroll in, why you have chosen that program, details about the your background, previous education and work experience as well as achievements in any particular area of life. Other than that, some other college essay admission tips are that the essay should also include interests and hobbies as this will show the admissions committee that the student is active in extra-curricular activities and the student is brilliant in all aspects of life, other than studies.

Finally, it is a blue print of success for the student. Therefore another tip is to show that you are diligent, intelligent, mature, focused and disciplined. The college admission essay goes beyond simply knowing that you are bright. It can encapsulate your character, personality and demeanor in just a few words. It can also be a way of knowing how you will do in college.

One of the first questions that comes up after cost and location on any college search is where will I live? About 80% of four-year colleges offer some type of on campus housing. Many colleges strongly suggest (some may even require) that you live on campus for the first year. And other rules may apply too, like whether you can have a vehicle your first year. Always check for any special requirements for first year students.

Since you will be spending a lot of time in your college dorm room, you should do an onsite visit if at all possible. Many times photos are old and outdated and don’t reflect current conditions. It’s important to know how much space and what furniture and storage items may be included in your dorm room. It’s also a good idea to talk to actual students if you visit. You can find out more in 10 minutes talking to students than you can find in any brochure.

Why would a college want you to live on campus? Well, some would say it’s more money for the college and I’m sure many can use all the funding they can get. But in reality it’s been known for a long time that when you live on campus your first year you have a much easier time adapting and actually graduating.

The main reason is that you are in a better position to meet more peers and make new friends faster. Support systems are set up and you also have plenty of people to help with making the transition to college life. Everyone is in the same boat and for once peer pressure can be a good thing.

A big part of college is the social life, whether that means finding people with common interest or maybe your potential mate for life. You are also exposed to a diverse group of people that can expand your thinking in many ways. Another good thing about college is exposing you to information and culture different from your own.

Of course there are some downsides to dorm living. You need to learn how to get along, share things like bathrooms, common areas, and other resources. Privacy is difficult to find, roommates may not be a perfect match, and distractions are everywhere. But for most new students, the good things outweigh the bad in the long run.

On campus living can come in many shapes and sizes. Each school may have slightly different facilities but all fall into some general categories. And all have rules; in fact each type of dorm may have different rules due to the nature of the dorm. Some colleges cater to certain groups like international students and make special facilities and rules to fit.

Some common dorm types are single sex (male or female only), coed dorms (where both sexes may be allowed in many configurations), dorms for special needs students (more wheel chair friendly), and even type of majors (like all music or engineering majors), lifestyle (drinking, smoking, whatever), and student level (freshman, sophomore or above).

Dorm rooms come in all shapes and configurations. The two roommate models are the most common. But you also have single occupant, quad occupants, and everything in between. Cost is a factor in many of the layouts with the single being the most expensive. Bathrooms are almost always shared either between two or maybe even the whole floor.

Speaking of cost, each school can vary widely in cost. On the high end it can be around $6,000 per semester, on the low end it can be around $2600 per semester. Single occupant dorm rooms are the most expensive and the cost goes down with the number of occupants in the room. The age and special features of each dorm facility can have an impact on the cost too.

A big part of your first year of college is directly related to where you live. Don’t forget to check out any requirements and what facilities are available. If possible, try and visit the campus while school is in session. Take a look at the dorm rooms, talk to students, and get a feel for where you will be living.

What is communication? It is the relaying of a message from a sender to a receiver. The process also includes feedback and noise. To be an effective communicator, there are some tips that you can follow. This article contains some tips to make your communication with others more effective as well as successful.

Firstly, effective communication tips are useful if you want to deliver a message to a receiver or receivers with minimal noise (disturbances or hindrances) and if you want your message to be understood in the right context as well as with the right meaning. Very often, we are misunderstood in our communication and this leads to misconceptions, biases and stereotypes. And these are barriers to effective communication.

Secondly, some effective communication tips are to be concise and clear when communicating, to be articulate, to go directly to the point instead of beating around the bush and to project your voice when communicating. Choose your words carefully and remember that it is okay to pause for a little while as this emphasizes your words more. Pay attention to your tone of voice and make sure that it is not too loud or too soft.

Thirdly, they must be practiced often. Try this when you are in your room alone or if you can get someone to be the listener. For effective communication, do not include ‘uhs’, ‘ahs’ and ‘ums’ when you communicate. Instead, pause for a second and then continue when you find your words. For speeches, avoid slang or mixing up languages as well as using complex words or phrases.

Lastly, in writing, avoid putting two words with the same meaning in one sentence. Also, in writing, don’t make the sentences too long. Instead break them up into two separate sentences. This will contribute more towards the understanding of what is being written. Then, let your voice be heard in your writing as this will make for a more interesting and insightful read. A quick tip when writing is to organize your writing so that it flows smoother when read.

If you have been thinking about starting or switching careers but lack the education to pursue this goal, then you need to find out more about the great opportunity you have through government scholarships. This year, more money than ever before has been set aside for moms to return to school. This money is waiting for moms like you to apply for it.

Thanks to the stimulus package and President Obama’s dedication to higher learning, the Pell Grant program has increased the amount of yearly scholarships to moms. You can now receive up to $9,000.00 per school year as you work to complete your education.

Even in this economy, there are many jobs unfilled because there are not enough qualified applicants. If you choose to pursue a degree in one of these fields, you will have employers actively seeking you to come work for them.

There are many benefits to a college degree. You will make more money, have job security, enjoy benefits, and have the self-satisfaction that you were able to accomplish such a task while still managing your family.

Online colleges and universities are especially attractive to working mothers. They offer flexible scheduling and are often geared to allow students to work at their own pace. This is ideal for when you have unexpected family or job related duties to attend to.

It is never too late to return to school and finish up that degree. You owe it to yourself to further look into the possibilities that a college degree offer to you.
